Angelina Jolie is set to make a war drama film on Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge regime.
The actress is known for her humanitarian effort, took a great leap in direction and production in the beginning of 2010.
The latest project with Netflix is very close to her heart considering that Cambodia is the birth country of his eldest son, Maddox.
“Unbroken” is the last movie that Jolie directed and this will be her fourth movie in the director’s seat.
The Oscar-winning star, Angelina will produce and direct a true-to-life movie based on Luong Ung’s book “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers”. Her son 13-year-old Maddox will be closely involved in this emotional project.
“I was deeply affected by Loung’s book. It deepened my understanding of how the children experience war and at the same time enlightened me of how are they affected by the emotional memory of it. And it helped me draw closer to the people of Cambodia, my son’s homeland. It is a dream come true to be able to adapt this book into screen,” she said in an interview.
Jolie, better known for her roles in Tomb Raider and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, has spent time in Cambodia while filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001. Indeed, she has a personal connection to the war-torn nation.
The American star adopted her son Maddox from an orphanage in 2001 and since then has donated millions to the country through their foundation, the Maddox Jolie-Pitt foundation.
Goodwill Ambassador, Angelina Jolie will be working alongside the Oscar-nominated Cambodian filmmaker Rithy Panh, as the co-producer.
