Pinoy pride over Pagara brothers’ victory on boxing ring


Pagara brothers gained victory over Mexican opponent in the International fight in Dubai.

Pagara brothers, Albert and Jason Pagara won in their first international fight held at Dubai World Trade Centre, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 7 August 2015. They were able to defend their title against Mexican opponents.

Albert Pagara, 21 year-old professional boxer is currently undefeated as a professional under Super Bantamweight class.  At the age of 17, he had his professional debut,  August 18, 2011. He gained his first ever world title, the IBF International Super Bantamweight belt against Hugo Partida via TKO in the first round at Cebu City Waterfront Hotel Casino in Cebu City, 21 June 2014.

Previously, he knocked down his Mexican opponent, Jesus Rios on the very first round during his first international fight in Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, August 7, 2015. Albert able to defend his IBF Inter-Continental Super Bantamweight title when he caught Rios with a strong straight right punch behind the ear, immediately knelt him on the floor. Referee Bruce McTavish then stopped the fight, more than minute left after he delivered continues punch to Rios’ head after regaining consciousness.

Referring to Albert, Michael Aldeguer, president and CEO of the Philippines’ foremost boxing outfit said, “He is aggressive, but in a calculated way,” and that selected boxers of the ALA stable will be leaving for the US late this month.

With proudhearted, “This fight proves that Albert has a place and should be welcomed on international boxing stage,”  Mark Angelo Arellano said.

After the victory, Albert Pagara stated, “This is a huge win for boxing in Dubai. It was not an easy one as he [Rios] is a tough opponent. But I was confident in my ability as I had put in a lot of hard work during my preparation for this fight.”

His older brother Jason Pagara, a professional boxer also won in the said event.  The 23 year-old boxer was a Junior Welterweight WBO champion in 2011. He started hi boxing career at the age of 8 in Leyte, Philippines. At the age of 14, he made his  professional debut on 29 September 2006 by defeating Tata Tadena at Jagna, Bohol, Philippines.

On June 2014, he successfully defended his WBO International light welterweight belt against Mario Meraz, knocking down  in the fourth round at the Cebu City Waterfront Hotel Casino in Cebu City. In his previous and first international  fight, 7 August 2015,  at Dubai World Trade Centre in Dubai he also gianed victory upon defeating  Mexico’s Ramiro Alcaraz via technical unanimous decision. Despite his victory, professional boxer had hard time on the ring as he suffered wounded left eye from an accidental head bout in the opening. However, he managed to continue the fight until the 8th round. The doctor advised  him to stop the fight, seeing too much blood flowing from his wound, but still he won the fight.

Jason Pagara controlled most of the succeeding rounds until the referee stopped the fight in the 8th round  when another cut was inflicted on Alcaraz. He had a hard time against opponent Ramiro Alcaraz in a bloodly fight. In the very first round, accidental clash of heads cut Jason on the left eyebrow  resulted of deduction on the Mexican.
